'Compliments of a Fiend' is a solo flight by Ed Hunter, and with good reason: his uncle Am has disappeared. As time ticks by Ed and the other operatives of the Starlock agency become increasingly concerned; Ben Starlock takes over the role of Ed's mentor and organises the search. Matters are confused by the reference to an 'Ambrose Collector', drawn from the bizarre collected works of Charles Fort. Mobsters make their reappearance, as does the numbers racket. (Something fishy struck me here in Brown's description of how the numbers are chosen, but I'm not expert enough to be sure about it; anyone else want to comment?) At last Ambrose is found; Ed saves his own life and his uncle's, and the two come into enough money to start their own agency.
